LEAP-HTN
Linkage, Empowerment, and Access to Prevent Hypertension
Led by Dr. Phillip Levy from Wayne State University, the LEAP-HTN team aims to deploy mobile health units to provide direct, personalized health care and coaching to people with high blood pressure living in Black neighborhoods of Detroit.
About LEAP-HTN
The LEAP-HTN study deploys mobile health units to provide personalized, accessible healthcare and coaching to individuals with high blood pressure in predominantly Black neighborhoods in Detroit. Community health workers support participants in developing and adhering to a flexible, personalized health plan. Research throughout the year will compare health outcomes, including hypertension management, between program participants and non-participants within the community, aiming to demonstrate improved blood pressure control among those receiving targeted interventions.

LEAP-HTN and WMHU
The LEAP-HTN team partners with the Wayne Mobile Health Unit (WMHU) to provide high-quality, portable, patient-centered, preventative health care to the underserved and underinsured in Southeast Michigan. WMHU offers a variety of screening services and connects individuals at higher risk of developing long-term illnesses to necessary care. Through this partnership, WSU and WMHU team members collaborate to identify individuals who qualify for the LEAP-HTN study and keep them engaged throughout the study duration. Additionally, WMHU Community Health Workers (CHWs) provide health coaching to those randomized in the interventional arm of the study.
